About Daniel Fierro

As a Technical Writer at Abila, I help translate software code and design into a documentation tool used for completing value added tasks needed to track nonprofit, association, and government business activities. While I love the technical aspects of my job, I also enjoy writing poetry and screenplays. I have a BA in English from the University of Rhode Island and an MS in Communications from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia. In my travels across the U.S., I have worked as a newspaper columnist and reporter, software configuration manager, short order cook, dishwasher, and carnival barker. I recently left the ice and snow of New England, for the sun and fun of Florida, where I now work out of Abila's Maitland office.

Managing the Message Board

A message board is an internet-based website people use to discuss topics, or threads, of common interest. These topics can be categorized so users can more easily search and find topics relevant to their area of interest. Six Ways to Collect Member Feedback

Want to know what your members, donors, or other constituents think about you? Ask!

Collecting and acting upon constituent feedback is important for associations and nonprofits, because it can provide insight into improving members’ and donors’ experiences, thus increasing satisfaction, engagement, and retention. And, besides being a great way to measure satisfaction, collecting feedback can also help you …

Playing it SAF(e) with Agile

One size does not always fit all. A strategy that works with T-shirts and other types of clothing may not be what is best for your organization. This is true for Agile Methodology. Whereas, the basic Agile principles may always apply to your development business needs, how you specifically apply these principles to your day-to-day …

Master of the (Agile) Scrum

In rugby, a scrum is where the players restart play on opposing sides, bodies interlocked and heads down, pushing forward and trying to gain possession of a ball by kicking it backward towards their own side of the field. My favorite definition of scrum is, “A disordered or confused situation involving a number of people.” When …

Using Demographics Data to Uncover Patterns

Picture the final scene of the movie “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” where, much to Indiana Jones’ dismay, the Ark of the Covenant is crated and tucked away among thousands of other crates of artifacts the government did not want found. Now, picture the opening of the latest installment of the “Raiders” movie franchise and …

Making the Transition from Desktop Computer to Smartphone

Recently, my notebook computer started to fail. Actually, the notebook’s hardware is fine. It’s just that its little processor heart can’t seem to keep up with the newer operating system and application software I’ve loaded onto it over the course of the last few years.

Reflexively, I reached for my smartphone and started browsing for a …

Go Mobile or Go Home: Adding Another “M” to Commerce

Now, instead of using e-commerce through the internet, we can …

Cloudy with a Chance of Technology

Cloud computing delivers information technology services through the internet directly to the user, on demand, where the user can then store his or her information in the cloud instead of on a local device.

Of course, your information isn’t really sitting on a mass of water vapor floating about between the ground and the vacuum of …
